First Knight First Knight

Reviews

I have loved this movie for years. It tells the romantic side of Gweneviere and Lancelot without being too mushy, has some action for the guys (2 big battle scenes plus a village raid, 2 rescues, a duel, and a gauntlet run), and a stellar cast of Sean Connery, Richard Gere and Julia Ormond.

Skipping much of Arthurian background story - and completely disregarding other aspects - "First Arthur" begins where the most famous of Lancelot's legendary adventures begin. With her lands attacked by ex-knight Malagant (Ben Cross), Lady Guinevere (Julia Ormond), as a stereotypical ingénue, is soon to wed King Arthur (Sean Connery) for protection. A country divided, Malagant's forces seek to overtake Arthur's, and upon Guinevere's arrival to Camelot they make their first strike. In rides Lancelot (Richard Gere) to save the day. Considering past Arthurian lore, I'd say a lot of this film is accurate. The scenery is impressive, and the battles are worthy if unspectacular. Except for the final sword battle between Lancelot and Malagant, which is ridiculous. Not only does the number of swords in battle magically change, but Gere ends up holding a handle without the sword at the end. Two of the more obvious movie slip-ups I've ever seen. The emotional aspect of this film is true to form. The Lancelot-Guinevere-Arthur love triangle is very well done, as Ormond manages to express an admirable love for King Arthur and a lustful desire for Lancelot. The struggle between the opposing forces of good and evil is captivating, despite its predictability. The problem with this film, however, is the casting and the costumes. While Ormond and Connery are nearly perfect, and Cross is a completely malignant evil, Richard Gere just doesn't seem to be right as Lancelot. He possesses neither the polished veneer of a highly skilled knight, nor the ruffian edge of a battle-hardened warrior. He's simply not believable. The costumes, on the other hand, are just as bad. The peasants' attire is appropriate, but the battle armor of the various knights, both good and evil, is anachronistic at best. Rather than the classic silver armor of good versus the dark grays of enemy armor, First Knight gives us a costume designer's interpretation, where the knights would look just as comfortable seated at a round table as they would a Michael Jackson themed disco club from the early 80s. The movie is a decent medieval romantic thriller, but it's not exemplary. Told without The Holy Grail, Merlin, or Excalibur, it's a small piece of the pie that is just a bit off. Except for the medieval obstacle course, I thought that part was a great addition.

A rebel knight from King Arthur's round table seeks to expand his empire by force, and terrorises the subjects of Guinevere, who has received an offer of marriage from Arthur. On the way to visit Arthur she has a chance meeing with the free-spirited and bohemian Lancelot, to whom she finds herself attracted. This movie is an adaptation of the myth of Arthur, and is interesting. The performances by Connery, Ormond and Gere are very good. First Knight is a great movie, and one you should not miss. It's a simple story that doesn't require a lot of analysis or understanding of the story and mythology to enjoy.

Curious attempt to tell the story of Camelot without the mysticism of Morte D'Arthur. The movie is stripped of the story's historic magic and told as a non-supernatural event. All-in-all it was nicely done. The fault I find with this piece rests entirely on Richard Gere. I simply cannot buy him as a heroic character and certainly not as the charismatic Lancelot. On the other hand... long live Lord Connery!

I recieved my new product in a timely manner and was very satisfied with my purchase. The only thing I didn't like was not being able to track my purchase but other than that I was very satisfied with my purchase.

1995 had already seen the box-office success of sword-wielding heroes in Rob Roy and Braveheart when along came this glossy revision of the Arthurian legend, in which Lady Guinevere (Julia Ormond) is torn between her love for the noble King Arthur (Sean Connery) and the passionate knight Sir Lancelot (Richard Gere)...

Star Wars 3-D Wall Mural 60in x 40in Star Wars 3-D Wall Mural 60in x 40in

This is actually a thin piece of plastic used as temporary decoration for a party...NOT a mural or poster as it was presented. The description is very decieving of the actual item! I am very disapointed in the quality of this purchase! I feel like it is misrepresented and should state that it is a throw away plastic sheet not a mural. I am shocked that the shipping is $6.95, that led me to believe that is was a heavy duty thick wall mural. It could have been shipped for the price or a letter and weight barely more than a typical piece of mail!

I was so excited to find this for my daughters "star wars" party. We used a toy lightsaber as a beating stick. The kids loved it, but it took forever to break. All 30 kids got a chance to hit it though, so it worked out well.

We got this for our son's second birthday. It is well made and looks really cool. The only down side is I thought it would be bigger.

The pinata looked great, but is very poorly designed. It's made in two parts and the bottom part which holds the candy busted off on the very first solid hit and the fun was all over.

I bought this for my 7 year old Godson's birthday party. He and his friends really like Star Wars, and what 7 year old wouldn't enjoy a pinata! It was a lot of fun to see how much the kids enjoyed the whole experience.

Rubies Costume Co. Star Wars Darth Maul Lightsaber Rubies Costume Co. Star Wars Darth Maul Lightsaber

This item was exactly what my son wanted for Christmas, except for the fact that the toy fell apart the very 1st time he played with it. I was able to repair it using a little ingenuity, but as far as the item's quality to price ratio it was definatly sub-par.

It broke the first day my son had it. We have put it back together but it isn't very high quality.

What can I say. My son was darth maul for Halloween and was so excited to find this light saber. Just waving it around broke it. The pieces flew off in every direction. I know it wasn't a toy but the kid didn't even hit anything with it or duel or anything. Very cheaply made.

This is the worst piece of junk toy I have ever purchased for my boys. I was deceived like the other buyer, thinking it was a different product than the Rubies Costume Darth Maul Lightsaber. But, it is exactly the same. The light never worked! The lightsaber pieces fell apart in the first 30 minutes. In our haste and laziness we threw the packaging away. However I am so upset about this product that I plan to write/call the manufacturer to complain. It continually fell apart. We attend about 3 functions with our costumes including trick or treating and my son could not use this toy/prop at all. I kept carrying the parts and pieces around as they fell apart at his school party. It was a mess. I have 2 -7 year old boys so I've bought a lot of toys over the years and this is about as mad as I've been. Please, to all parents just please beware. To collectors, never take this prop out of it's box. NEVER. Thank you.

We bought this for our son's Halloween costume, but it succeeded in scaring only us. It broke in several ways within 24 hours of unwrapping it, and never the light never worked to begin with. The extendable saber portions broke off rapidly, and had to be taped together to trick-or-treat with -- after 10 minutes trying to patch the light saber together, our 8-year-old som said "this is the worst Halloween ever."

I got this for my kid. and when he was setting it up he left the room for a minute. Well the thing worked on it's own. I would recomend this for a party. I bet it's fun to use around drunk people who have no clue about it.

I purchased this for my son for Christmas. When I first saw it, I was disappointed. It was made of cheap plastic and was very lightweight. The headset, though, is better quality than the rest of it. The ball inside the trainer tube is a ping pong ball with designs on it. The base is very lightweight cheap plastic. The sound quality of the small speaker isn't so great either. But we were still anxious to see if it worked. It took a bit to figure out how to get it to connect from the wireless headset to the base, but once we figured it out, it's easy enough to get it to do it again and again. Once we got it working, we were hooked. Literally, we spent hours playing with it and going through all the paces. After awhile, I ended up with a headache and had to stop, but my daughter and my son both played with it for hours more. My best friend spent several hours playing with it too. The biggest complaint is that there is no way to save your levels. After while, so much 'concentration' to get the ball to rise to the top makes my eyes and head ache, and I want to walk away, but if you stop playing and turn it off, the machine resets with no way to save progress and you have to go through all the paces again to get up to the Jedi Knight level. Also, there is a 'humming' sound the speakers purposely makes, and it is very annoying. You can't control the volume, for two reasons 1) the game needs to tell you through Yoda's voice what level to move the ball up to and 2) there is no volume control. The humming part that sounds like a machine humming needs to be removed. Very annoying. All in all, not bad for a bit of fun, but as cheap as it was constructed, 70 bucks was very expensive for what it is. My son wants one that is somehow tied into one of his gaming systems.

This is a really cool toy for a kid. This is the future of toys. I waited to give it to my son after his birthday party... you can't just open it out of the box and master it and didn't want everyone crowding him because it's not that type of toy. It's raising and lowering the beta wave output of your brain just by thinking differently, which we don't consciously do. That is we don't link it normally to any activity (except a heart attack!) until you start to use this toy. I must note that at first my son did his best (masters all 3 levels and all 5 sublevels) right before bedtime or right after waking up. He'll use his hand as a focus point, raising it, lowering it, etc.; when a friend is around he's learning to do it and ignore distractions. He now can even do pretty well while his sister is making fun of him. It's teaching him concentration, and to not react as much to outside interferences. He actually plays differently in some situations; he's not distracted as much at all. This device gives feedback on your mind, so yes, it does "read" your mind as much as a simple device can. It detects beta levels, the easiest to detect and most common ones that don't need intrusive sensors. If you are the excited type or anxious it'll peak the ball at the top. If your brain is on overload it won't work. If you are taking any stimulants (especially ADHD drugs) this won't work, you'll peg it. Interruptions play havoc. If you are really relaxed (artificially) it won't do anything. If you are taking "beta-blockers" this won't really work quite right either. For those adults with problems, c'mon and think for a second: adults produce more beta waves than children (look at the intended age) and some are more stressed than others so don't be surprised if you can't control it right off the bat. I put it on freeplay and was talking with my wife and it'd get pegged. You need to be calm, the contacts need to be clean and your skin clean, and you need to be alone without distractions and clear your mind. I mean clear it. This isn't telekinesis. This is a beta-wave feedback device. Besides being a toy, I wear it while coding or data mining and it's interesting to "hear" the machine move depending on what I'm concentrating on. (Get a 9v transformer, I chew up the batteries by doing this) I can see this turning into a multi-person game someday soon. My suggestions: Buy the 9v transformer. If the headset doesn't make a difference if it's on or off, *it's broken*, it should flash on the base and the headset if there's no contact. Make sure your skin is clean, no lotions. Clean the contacts off with something gentle and not oily.

I will echo others' comments about the incredibly poor quality of this toy. In fact, the manufacturing standards are so lax that we were unable to play the game (and thus cannot comment on the actual game play) despite returning the first unit that was sent us and receiving a second. On the first game we received, the screw on the battery cover on the headset was screwed in crooked and lodged so tightly that it stripped before we could reach the battery compartment. It was a clearly visible manufacturing defect that was allowed to leave the factory. We were able to insert the batteries into the second unit we received, but that didn't help much. While the main unit activated, the headset once again was defective, and despite trying multiple sets of batteries, we never could activate the headset and synch it to the base. After examining it, we could see visible stress cracks in the plastic all around the headset and can only wonder what it went through before it went into the box. At the rate we are going, the next try may give us a chance to play, but we don't have the patience to give Uncle Milton a third chance. The only thing more disappointing to me in the whole Star Wars universe - Jar Jar.

my nephew is 7 and he can use it , I'm 30 and it did not work read the instructions up and down and nothing. my nephew is upset with Santa. he said why would he gave me a toy that don't work? horrible experience.
